# Blue Mountains Sauna

> Australia's first dedicated European-style public sauna, in Leura in the Blue Mountains, NSW (about two hours west of Sydney). Real heat, real sauna culture: daily Aufguss heat ceremonies, two cold plunges, and the Southern Hemisphere's first public wood-fired smoke sauna. All ages, all genders, walk-ins welcome. Not a spa.

Blue Mountains Sauna (BMS) opened in 2022, founded by Inga Sommerfeld and Nikita Miltiadou. It is built around authentic European public bathing culture and is certified by Sauna from Finland. The founders are pioneers of public Aufguss in Australia and founding members of the Australian Sauna Association.

Facilities:
- The Aufguss: an electric sauna (around 90C) where daily Aufguss ceremonies are performed by trained Saunameisters.
- The Savu: a traditional wood-fired smoke sauna (savusauna), the first public one in the Southern Hemisphere, designed in consultation with Finnish sauna researcher Dr. Lassi Liikkanen of Aalto University.
- Two cold plunges (around 3C and 12C) and three rest areas, each with a fireplace.
- Changerooms (female, male, unisex), hot showers and lockers. Filtered water, tea, bench towels and slippers are included.

Practical details:
- All sessions run two hours. Walk-ins are welcome; booking ahead is recommended for peak times. Bookings are handled through Punchpass.
- Location: 7 Quinns Avenue, Leura NSW 2780. A five-minute walk from Leura station on the Blue Mountains Line.
