ETIQUETTE

Know before you go

A communal public sauna requires respect towards the space and the people you share it with. Together, we can build a sauna culture everyone can enjoy.

Sit, Sweat, Chill, Repeat

Our sauna cycle leaves you with a natural high, and a beautiful glow. It guides you through a respectful sauna etiquette and helps you get the most from every session. Here's how to move through it.

Before your session have a full body shower with the provided body wash in our change rooms. A quick splash is not enough. Remove makeup, products, jewellery and hair masks. Wash off the day before you sweat.

SIT

Find your spot on the bench and settle in.

  • Sit on your bench towel, feet included. It protects the wood and keeps the sauna hygienic for the next person.
  • Go in dry, not dripping.
  • No yoga, breathwork, singing, stretching, grooming or food. It's a shared, neutral room.
  • Keep chats quiet and avoid controversial topics in the sauna. During silent sessions keep it silent in the Aufguss sauna and the wet area. Regardless of the session, please be modest in volume.

A clean start keeps the sauna pleasant for everyone. A few things to do before you reach the bathing area.

  • Grab a pair of slippers

Bring your own slides or borrow a pair of ours. They're for getting around everywhere outside the sauna and cold plunge.

  • Full shower first, with body wash

Scents carry in the heat, so it matters that everyone is properly clean before they sweat.

  • Remove makeup, oils, deodorant and jewellery

Cosmetics and oils will run, and metal heats up fast against the skin.

  • Leave your phone in your locker

Phones and electronic devices aren't welcome in the bathing area. They don't survive the environment, and they take us all out of the moment. The experience is better without them.

  • Bring it down with you

Bathers, a bath towel, your water bottle, a robe, and a good book or journal if you fancy. You'll be handed bench towels downstairs.

  • Hydrate

Our hydration station has herbal tea, filtered water and salt. Aim for two to three litres across your two-hour session. Consider adding some electrolytes, available for purchase at reception.

  • Eat sensibly beforehand

Don't sauna on an empty stomach, but skip a big meal right before your session. A light meal up to two hours ahead is ideal. Coffee on an empty stomach is a bad idea.

Small things that help keep the sauna sacred

Most of this is common sense, and we wish we didn't have to say it. It's everyone's responsibility to keep the sauna pleasant and comfortable. If you witness something that makes you uncomfortable, please let our team know.

  • Go in the sauna dry, never dripping wet.
  • Don't groom, pick at your skin or comb your hair in the sauna or cold plunge.
  • No disruptive stretching, singing or loud breathwork. Keep the room neutral for everyone.
  • Don't comment on anyone's body or appearance. People are here to feel at ease in their own skin, so keep it respectful.
  • Don't dip your bench towels in the cold plunge.
  • Don't wring out your bench towels on the sauna rocks.
  • Don't loudly blow your nose or spit in the wet area or sauna.
  • Keep hair products out of the sauna and cold plunge. Tie hair up before getting into the cold plunge.

Respect makes the room

Sauna is not a pub

Conversations inside the sauna are welcome, but keep them to a calm, respectful volume. If a chat can be heard across the room, it's too loud. Our resting areas are perfect for socialising.

Keep it neutral

Controversial topics such as vaccinations, religion, politics and debates on gender don't belong in a space meant for communal relaxation. Traumatic topics and experiences are best left outside the hot room too. We never know what someone else is carrying, so a shared hot room stays a neutral place where everyone can enjoy the good heat for their own reasons.

Zero tolerance

There is zero tolerance for inappropriate or disrespectful behaviour towards other guests, our team or the facility. Any such behaviour will result in a permanent ban.
